Starting a research session
To begin:
- Open the Research board tab.
- The Research Hub should open automatically. If it doesn’t, click the beaker icon at the top of the left sidebar.
- Enter your research topic or question (similar to using a search engine).
- Choose your search scope.
- Select the number of sources (up to 5).
- Click Generate Research.
Scribeist will crawl selected sources and consolidate the information into a single document with citations. This process typically takes 15–30 seconds.
Search scopes
Entire web - Broad search across all websites. Best for general topics.
Specific sites - Enter website URLs to search only those sources. Best for trusted publications or specific outlets (e.g., nytimes.com, nature.com).
Academic - Prioritizes scholarly articles, research papers, and educational content.
Reddit - Searches Reddit discussions for community insights and real-world experiences.
Source limit
You can consolidate up to 5 sources per research session. AI works best with 5 or fewer sources—more sources tend to produce unfocused results.
After research completes
You'll get a consolidated document with information synthesized from all sources and automatic citations. Review the document, verify claims against the original sources, and add your own notes or insights as needed.
Tip
Always verify important claims by clicking the source citations and checking the original content.
Note
Research-generated documents are currently not editable after creation.
