What are mentions?
Mentions are automatic tracking of where entities appear in your manuscript. Every time you reference a character, location, or other entity by name (including aliases), Mythos records it.
Mention tracking helps you verify continuity, balance character screen time, ensure important locations appear appropriately, and identify underused story elements.

How mentions work
Mythos scans your manuscript for entity names and aliases, then records:
- Document - Which chapter or scene the mention appears in
- Context - The surrounding text where the entity is mentioned
- Frequency - How many times the entity appears
Mentions update automatically as you write. No manual tagging required.
Viewing mentions
To view mentions for an entity: Open entity profile → Mentions tab → See list of all appearances
In the Mythos sidebar: Open AI sidebar → Mythos tab → See entities in current document
Aliases and mentions
Mythos tracks mentions of all names and aliases you've added to an entity.
Example: If "John Doe" has aliases "Johnny" and "The Detective," Mythos tracks all three names as mentions of the same entity.
Tip
Always add aliases (nicknames, titles, descriptors) to entities so Mythos can track all references accurately.
