Managed AI usage
Hobby and Pro managed plans include monthly Scribeist AI usage. In Account Settings, normal subscription customers see the percentage of their monthly usage remaining rather than an arbitrary credit count.
More demanding AI requests may use more of your monthly allowance than brief writing assistance.
If you are using BYOK, Scribeist uses your connected provider instead of consuming managed Scribeist AI usage for supported requests.
Those requests are billed according to the provider account you connected. Local Ollama and LM Studio models run on your own computer.

Monthly managed subscriptions renew their AI usage with their paid billing cycle. Annual managed subscriptions renew usage on the first day of each calendar month.
BYOK plan variants do not include managed Scribeist AI usage because supported requests use your connected provider instead.
AppSumo Tier 3 and Tier 4 keep their monthly allowances while BYOK is enabled. BYOK requests do not use that allowance; managed requests use it whenever BYOK is turned off.

AppSumo credits
AppSumo customers continue to see exact AI credit balances because those credit amounts are part of their purchased lifetime entitlement. AppSumo allowances and renewal behavior have not changed.

What consumes managed AI usage?
Credits are consumed when using:
- AI writing assistance (rewrites, expansions, suggestions)
- Research and web scraping
- Content generation
- Chat with AI
- Mythos AI classification
Mythos and AI usage
Mythos entity tracking itself is part of the Book workspace experience, but Mythos AI can consume managed usage.
If you do not want Mythos AI to use managed usage in a workspace, you can turn Mythos AI off in Workspace Settings → AI.

Previously purchased usage
Additional AI usage is no longer available for purchase.
If your account already has a previously purchased balance, it remains on your account and does not expire. Scribeist uses monthly managed usage first, followed by that existing balance. If you move to Free or BYOK, the balance remains stored and becomes available again on an eligible managed AI plan.
