Note

Available on: Eligible paid and AppSumo plans

What can be imported?

  • Supported files: TXT, Markdown, HTML, PDF, DOCX, KPF, and ZIP archives of supported files
  • Connected imports: Google Drive / Docs and Notion
  • Combined upload limit: 15 MB across the selected import

Scribeist can preserve or infer document hierarchy from supported files. For example, structured books and archives may become folders, chapters, and scenes rather than one flat document.

Importing during workspace creation

When creating a new workspace, you can import files as part of the setup process. Select "Import" in the workspace dashboard upload your files, and they'll appear in the new workspace ready to use.

Importing into an existing workspace

To import into an existing workspace:

  1. Open the workspace
  2. Click the three-dot menu in the top right → Import
  3. Select your files
  4. Select the Board tab where the documents should be imported
  5. Click Upload

Files appear at the root level of whichever board tab you selected when importing. They can be moved into folders afterwards.

Review Mythos suggestions

Book imports can optionally use AI to find potential Mythos entries in the imported text. Review and edit every suggestion before adding it. Scribeist identifies likely existing matches to reduce duplicates and can include supported timeline events.

This option uses managed AI usage or your connected BYOK provider.

Import research material

Use the Research library rather than the workspace document importer when you want a file treated as a source with citation metadata and attached notes.
