What are Mythos locations?

Locations are entities in Mythos that track the settings where your story takes place—from taverns to kingdoms, with details about who's there and what events occurred.

Note

Available in: Book Workspace only

Creating locations

To create a location:

  1. Go to the World Entities board tab
  2. Click "New Location" or select "Location" from entity types
  3. Enter location details

Basic information:

  • Name - Location's primary name
  • Aliases - Alternate names or nicknames
  • Photo - Upload a location image or map (max 10MB)

What Mythos tracks

Mythos automatically tracks information about your locations as you write:

Mentions

Every time the location is referenced in your manuscript, with document and context.

Who's currently there

Characters present at the location right now in your story.

Who has been there

Historical tracking of all character visits, when they occurred, and how many times.

Timeline

When events occur at each location throughout your story, organized chronologically.

Viewing location information

Location profile: Open World Entities board tab → Click location → View all details and tracking

Select in editor: Select a color-coded location → See who's currently there in the popup

Color coding

Assign colors to locations to see them highlighted throughout your manuscript.

How it works:

  1. Assign a color to a location
  2. Location mentions appear highlighted in that color
  3. Click the highlighted text to view location details and current characters

Parent color inheritance: Child locations can inherit colors from parent locations (e.g., all cities in a kingdom share the kingdom's color).

Relationships

Create hierarchies to organize complex world geography.

Examples:

  • Kingdom → Cities → Districts
  • Planet → Continents → Countries
  • Building → Floors → Rooms

Using locations with AI

Use Add → Mythos entities in AI Chat to provide location profiles as context.

Example:

Using the added Crimson Tavern, John Doe, and Jane Smith profiles, write their arrival scene.

AI receives only AI-visible profile fields. Add relevant manuscript text or use workspace Search when the answer depends on who is present at a particular point in the story.
