Customize your workspace appearance, author details, and workspace preferences.

What are workspace settings?

Each workspace has its own independent settings for appearance, authorship, and publishing. Changes you make in one workspace don't affect your others.

To access settings: Open a workspace → Click Settings at the bottom of the left sidebar

Workspace information

Workspace Name

Change your workspace name at any time. Names don't need to be unique across your workspaces.

Description

Add a description to help you remember what the workspace is for. Appears on your dashboard under the workspace name.

Author/Pen Name

Set the author name for this workspace. Appears in:

  • Exported documents (EPUB, PDF metadata)
  • Public share links

Be Mindful

Workspace descriptions and pen names are currently visible on live share links and cannot be hidden.

If you do not want this information displayed publicly, leave these fields empty while using share links. You can add them later before exporting.

The ability to hide this information on share links will be available in a future update.

Appearance

Cover Image

Upload a cover image for your workspace.

Where it appears:

  • Workspace dashboard
  • Public share links
  • EPUB exports (if selected during export)

Specs:

  • Max file size: 10MB
  • Formats: JPG, PNG, WebP

Typeface

The font chosen when a workspace is created remains the default for unformatted text. To change the font for a word, selection, or newly typed text, use the font menu in the editor toolbar. Choose Default there to return selected text to the workspace font.

Dark Mode

Choose Light, Dark, or System (follows your device preference).

Paper Mode

Add a subtle paper texture to your editor background. Purely aesthetic—doesn't affect functionality or exports.

Editor toolbar

Show or hide the formatting toolbar above the editor.

Automatic paragraph indentation

Choose whether pressing Enter starts each new paragraph with four spaces. This is enabled by default and can be turned off independently in each workspace.

Modes

The Modes settings tab combines Focus and Reading preferences. You can also open this tab from Settings in the Modes dropdown in the workspace top bar.

Focus mode

Configure whether Focus mode:

  • Hides the editor toolbar
  • Dims blocks away from the cursor
  • Keeps the active line near the center with typewriter scrolling

Reading mode

Reading settings appear only in Book workspaces. Choose between:

  • Continuous reading — the manuscript flows in reading order
  • Book preview — a cover followed by paginated two-page spreads

Continuous reading can use the editor measure or a novel-page measure. Book preview uses a 6 × 9 page proportion.

Publishing connections

Publishing accounts are connected from Account Settings → Integrations and are shared across your workspaces. Scribeist supports WordPress, Ghost, Dev.to, Hashnode, Beehiiv, Micro.blog, and HubSpot.
