Folder Overview

What is the folder overview?

Click any folder in the sidebar to open its overview. Everything inside the folder appears as a card, in the same order as your sidebar. Each card shows:

• Its title and a short synopsis
• Its status, for documents
• Its word count, for documents
• How many items it holds, for folders

Use it to see a whole chapter, act, series, or section at a glance, without opening each document.

Writing synopses

A synopsis is a sentence or two about what a document covers or what happens in it. Click the empty area on a card and start typing. Your synopsis saves automatically.

Synopses make it easier to plan, restructure, and pick up where you left off. They also appear when you add a document to AI Chat without full text.

Reordering

Drag a card to move it. The new order is saved straight away and the sidebar updates to match.

Restructuring on the board is often easier than in the sidebar. You can read each synopsis while you decide where something belongs.

Adding to a folder

Click New in the top right of the overview to add a document, folder, or canvas to this folder. Blog workspaces can choose between a blog post and a free-form document.

Reading a folder

Click Read to open the folder in reading mode. Every document in the folder, including documents inside nested folders, flows together in order, just as a reader would see it.

This is a good way to check pacing, transitions, and repetition across a section. To return to the folder, click the folder name in the top left or press Esc.

Folder summary

The line under the folder title is the folder's own summary. Type a summary, or let AI write one (see below). A folder's summary is also its synopsis on its card in the parent folder.

AI help

Click AI in the top right of the overview:

• Write missing synopses - Writes a synopsis for every card that doesn't have one, based on the full document.
• Summarize this folder - Writes the folder summary from what the folder contains.

To write or rewrite one card's synopsis, hover over the card and click the sparkle icon next to its title.

Folders that contain other folders are summarized from those folders' synopses. Where a folder doesn't have a synopsis yet, the documents inside it are used instead. If nothing in the folder has been written yet, these options are unavailable.

Managed generation uses your included AI usage. If you use your own API key (BYOK), it uses your connected provider instead. You can review and edit anything the AI writes.
